Would it be a good or bad idea to get another kitten or cat?

As many of you know, my dear little cat Tabita May died a few days ago. I will never get over her death. The other day, my wife suggested that in a few months time, we should get another little kitten. She said not as a replacement,& I just howled at that point so she couldn't say any more. Since then, I have thought about it & I am still Against the idea. My wife still wants to do it though. Another thing to consider, is our cat Frills. She is the mother of the cat that died, & is now the only cat in our home, so she has only my wife & I as friends & to play with. ..... IF I were to get another kitten, I would want to get one from a shelter & save it from "execution". ... My wife on the other hand, used to be a cat breeder & I think she would prefer to get a Siamese cat with papers of pedigree. I think. .... So what should I do?
