My leopard gecko is having difficulty catching the crickets he is 16 and only recently been having trouble?

He has also developed frills on skin on each side of his body. Thought that might be loss of body weight. He has always been a good eater up until the last couple of weeks. The upsetting thing is he does hunt but just does'nt seem to keep hold of them!
